Save a picture of the window, and test what the renderer draws
Window › Save Picture of Window saves a PNG of the whole window to the Desktop, and new tests read back the pixels the renderer draws.
Window › Save Picture of Window, also in the command palette, writes the window’s last frame to the Desktop as Napdock 2026-11-02 at 21.28.40.png, named like the Mac’s own screenshots. A toast says where it went or that saving failed. It draws into an offscreen texture, so it needs no Screen Recording permission and a covered window still comes out whole.
For developers, apps/native/tests/pixels.rs renders headless through the real Metal renderer and checks pixels: exact colours, the content panel’s hairline edge in light and dark, and the bottom strip. This adds a render-to-image feature to the vendored gpui-pre crates, including a newly vendored gpui-pre-apple.
